XBMC[1] is a GPL licensed software media player and entertainment hub for digital media. XBMC can play most[2] popular audio and video formats. It can play CDs and DVDs from a disk or image file and even files inside ZIP and RAR archives. It can scan all of your media and automatically create a personalized library with album covers, descriptions, and fanart.
NOTE: before installing XBMC, make sure that your system meets the minimum hardware requirements[3]. The XBMC team recommends using an NVIDIA GeForce 6150 or later.
During the installation of PC-BSD the installer provided an option to install XBMC. If you wish to install XBMC afterwards, use Control Panel ➜ System Manager ➜ System Packages ➜ Misc. Once XBMC is installed, an entry should be added to the Multimedia section of the application menu of your desktop. You can also start XBMC by typing xbmc from a command prompt.
If you have never used XBMC before, take some time to skim through the XBMC Quick Start Guide[4] and the XBMC Online Manual[5].
