I noticed that the FreeBSD boot loader can recognize the USB flash drive. I have two pc-bsd partitions on the same drive that are bootable (listed at F1 and F2). When I plugged my little usb drive in, that one was listed underneath as F5. I'm not sure why it used F5 instead of F3 or F4.. but this is a further option than to specifically set the bios to boot from the usb (however boot capability may need to be enabled from bios). My bios has a setting to allow USB storage devices. --Tigersharke 11:18, 20 January 2011 (PST)
