The Update Manager's Configuration button has four tabs, as seen in Figure 6.1.1a:

Note that the settings described in this section also affect the installation of PBIs, as described in the Installing a PBI section.

The Mirrors tab allows you to configure which PC-BSD mirror Update Manager connects to in order to check for and install updates or PBIs. The default selection is to use the default mirror. Occasionally, this mirror is busy or may contain the PBI or update that you wish to install. Also, their may be other mirrors that are closer to your geographic location. If you would like to change the default mirror, click the "Select Mirror from list" button and select a mirror from the drop-down list.

If your company maintains its own repository of PBIs or updates, you can select the "Specify a custom mirror" button and input the IP address of the company's server.

The Software tab, seen in Figure 6.1.1b, allows you to configure the following options:

  • Automatically update software:
  • Automatically create desktop icons:
  • Keep downloaded software in temporary directory:
