THIS PAGE IS BEING UPDATED

The pc-updatemanager command can be used to perform an operating system upgrade from the command line. It can also be used to apply system updates and to update non-PBI software.

NOTE: before performing any upgrade, be sure to backup your important data. You should also be aware of the caveats listed here.

If you type the command without any options, it will show its available options:

pc-updatemanager

/usr/local/bin/pc-updatemanager - Usage ----   branches - List available system branches                           chbranch <tag> - Change to new system branch   check - Check for system updates   install <tag>,<tag2> - Install system updates   pkgcheck - Check for updates to packages

  pkgupdate - Install packages updates

Updating Non-PBI Software

Applying System Updates

Become the superuser and use the following command to check to see if an update is available:

pc-updatemanager check

The following updates are available: ------------------------------------ NAME: System Update to 9.1 TYPE: SYSUPDATE VERSION: 9.1 DATE: 2012-12-03 TAG: release-9.1 DETAILS: http://www.pcbsd.org

To install this update run "/usr/local/bin/pc-updatemanager install release-9.1"

Follow the instructions to install the update:

Upgrading the Operating System

pc-updatemanager install release-9.1                                            

STARTINGUPDATE: 9.1

Downloading Master Files...

The upgrade will then proceed as usual and you will be prompted when the system is ready to reboot.
